Greener Home Grants
The Canadian government has prioritized the need for climate action in an effort to build ‘A Healthy Environment and a Healthy Economy’ – the name of their new, strengthened climate plan. This agenda represents an opportunity to protect the environment, generate new jobs and create a cleaner and greener economy.
What does this mean for you as a homeowner? The possibility of greener living, improved heating for the best indoor comfort, and monthly energy savings. With the assistance of the grant, it is now easier and more economical to make the switch to more energy-efficient equipment such as heat pumps. These appliances will reduce energy waste to minimize your carbon footprint and the negative impacts on critical ecosystems.
In recent years, there has been a large influx of people switching to efficient home appliances, and according to the NRDC, if just 1 in 10 households bought Energy-Star labeled heating and cooling equipment, we could avoid dumping 13 billion pounds of CO2 emissions into the environment each year.
A heat pump is an electrically-driven device that extracts heat from a low temperature place and delivers it to a higher temperature place. So, when you invest in an efficient home, you cut carbon dioxide emissions and your utility bills.
You can earn up to a maximum total rebate of $5,600, including up to $5000 total for the implementation of eligible retrofits as well as an audit reimbursement of $600.

2023 Enbridge HER+ Program
Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and Enbridge Gas have partnered up to create a new rebate program for Ontarians called the Home Energy Rebate Plus Program (HER+) which allows residents to receive rebates of up to $6,500 towards eligible heat pumps. 1Click Heating & Cooling are an approved provider within Ontario to help Ontario Residents through the audit and installation process. Our team will be with you every step of the way to ensure you get approved and have your new system up and running!
The rebates will be going towards eligible retrofits such as home insulation, windows, doors and other energy efficient appliances. Approved clients can also get a rebate of up to $600 which can offset their EnerGuide home assessment through the Canada Greener Homes Grant program.
Through the HER+ program, residents can receive the following:
- Customers who use propane, oil, wood, or electric sources for their appliances instead of gas can receive up to $5,600 towards an eligible heat pump system.
- Customers who do use gas can receive up to $10,000 in rebates while purchasing an appliance from the approved mechanical systems list. $6,500 of this can be used towards an eligible heat pump, such as the KeepRite ProComfort Multi-Zone or the KeepRite Central Ducted Heat Pump!
- Landlords who use gas heating for their properties are also eligible for up to $10,000 with enhanced incentives along with any appliance from the approved Canada Greener Homes Grant approved mechanical systems list. Again, $6,500 of this can be used towards an eligible heat pump!
It is important to note that the HER+ program has changed the following from the previous program:
- The grant now only requires one energy efficiency upgrade instead of two from Enbridges’ previous program.
- Switching to a ductless or central heat pump qualifies as the one upgrade needed!
- Homeowners will no longer require to register through the Canada Greener Homes Grant
- Furnaces are no longer a part of this program, unless it is needed to install a heat pump for your property

Efficiency Nova Scotia
Heating makes up half the energy bill in most Nova Scotian homes, making it the single largest use of energy for most of us. Upgrade to an efficient home heating system and you can get rebates to complement your monthly savings and comfortable home. Efficient heating systems like heat pumps, wood/pellet stoves, water heaters, and solar can save you money, by using less energy.
If you have installed a qualified heating system in the last 180 days, you could be eligible to receive a rebate between $150 and $2,500. Rebates are available to all homes regardless of how you heat your home.
New Brunswick Total Home Energy Savings
The Total Home Energy Savings Program is an incentive program created by NB power in order to help homeowners cut down on utility costs, save energy and overall live in a greener home. You could be eligible for grants ranging from $100-$4,000 depending on which type of upgrades you need for your home.
In order to qualify for the Total Home Energy savings program, you must meet the criteria below:
- You must be the legal primary homeowner of the property you wish to do your renovations in
- Your property is residential: no more than 3 stories high and is smaller than 600m² (6458 ft ²). Single family homes, detached, side-by-side or row homes are also valid
- Manufactured or mobile homes that are built on a permanent foundation are also eligible
- The property must be livable, in sound condition and is capable of receiving an evaluation from a Certified Energy Advisor. The home must have all interior and exteriors finished, a functioning heating and cooling system, kitchen and bathroom(s).
- Properties that have participated in any of Efficiency NB’s programs or NB Power’s Home Insulation Energy Savings Program that are still in need of upgrades.
If you meet all of the criteria and the requirements, here’s how you can apply for the program:
- You can register online or call Save Energy NB at 1-800-633-6272
- Complete an initial Home Energy Evaluation
- After your initial evaluation, you can review the report with your Certified Energy advisor that provides recommendations and any other necessary changes from your evaluation
- Choose the projects that you would like to complete. You have 9 months from your initial energy evaluation to complete your renovations. Make sure to save your receipts in order to receive your incentives.
- Complete a final home energy evaluation, as your Certified Energy Advisor will go through your upgrades and you will receive a rating which shows the improved energy efficiency of your property.
- As noted before, save all of your receipts from all the upgrades that you have made and receive your incentives within 90 days from your final home energy evaluation.

If you live in British Columbia, you could be eligible for up to $11,000 in grants and rebates if you decide to switch to heat pumps with a total of provincial and federal rebates and grants alone. BC Hydro is giving away $3,000 in rebates as a top-up and an additional $3,000 from CleanBC’s additional rebate. Eligible applicants can receive up to a total of $6,000 from BC Hydro in rebates.
How to qualify be eligible for the BC Hydro Top-Up Program:
- You must have a residential account with BC Hydro
- Your property must be at least 12 months or older and meet at least meet one of the property types below:
- Single-family detached home
- Single-family detached home with a secondary unit (such as a basement apartment) both of which are individually metered
- Mobile home that is permanently fixed on a foundation along with structurally complete heating, plumbing, electrical and sewer systems within the property. Towing, axle and other additional tools should be completely removed.
- Side-by-side or stacked duplex or side-by-side row home or townhouses with each individual unit that comes with its own natural gas and/or electricity meter. Homes that have utility accounts under a corporation are not eligible.
- Your new heat pump must be the new main heat source of your home. Any heating appliances that run on natural gas, oil or propane should be removed with proof required.
- Your invoice must be dated September 28, 2021 or later and you must apply for the rebate within 6 months.
If your home is currently running on heated electricity, you can still get a rebate of up to $2,000 for installing a heat pump in your home.
